Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) Measurement

In today's technology-driven world, electromagnetic fields (EMF) are all around us. This term refers to invisible areas of energy that arise from the use of electrical power, such as in our homes, power lines or appliances in the workplace. Essentially, anything that uses electricity produces both electric and magnetic fields. The strength of an EMF decreases rapidly with distance from the source.

While some EMFs occur naturally, there has been growing concern about potential health effects from exposure to artificial EMFs in the workplace. This led to the introduction of HSE’s Control of Electromagnetic Field at Work Regulations (CEMFAW) which came into force in 2016.

The regulations, in line with EMF Directive 2013/35/EU, are mandatory law. They place a responsibility on employers to ensure electromagnetic field radiation is assessed and, where possible, reduced, or measures taken to reduce the risks and keep exposure below the Exposure Limit Value (ELV).
